Better Jobs Ontario (formerly Second Career) is a grant-based program offering vocational skills training to unemployed individuals. The training, completed in 52 weeks or less, helps participants transition into high-skill, in-demand jobs. Eligible applicants include those who are unemployed, laid off, or from low-income households facing employment challenges.
If you are ever injured or become ill because of your job, WSIB is here to give you the care and support you’re entitled to under Ontario’s workplace safety and insurance system. That includes benefits, as well as other support, such as return to work assistance.

Ontario Works helps people who are in financial need. It offers Employment assistance to help clients find, prepare for and keep a job. This assistance may include:
- workshops on resume writing and interviewing
- job counselling
- job-specific training
- access to basic education, so clients can finish high school or improve their language skills
Loans and Financing Options
If you can’t get help from the government or a company but still want to start your career by getting the training you need, you might be able to use flexible payment options. With these plans, you can pay for your training in smaller, manageable installments while you learn.
With as low as 0% Interest APR for well qualified customers. If you do not qualify for 0% Interest, Paybright charges 0% to 31.9% interest. This allows you to finance your new career and take up to 36 months to pay.

Financial Support through Employers
In Ontario, there are opportunities to receive financial support from employers. Employers will work with the right candidate to offer programs to help with tuition fees & course materials.
- Canada-Ontario Job Grant
The Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) supports employers in investing in their workforce with government assistance. - Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship Program (CODA)
This program allows college students to receive apprenticeship training while earning a diploma. Registrants must meet apprenticeship requirements as well as all eligibility criteria for the specific college program (see individual listings). - Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
This program allows high school students to gain on-the-job experience through work placements and register as apprentices in skilled trades. Students complete credits toward both their high school diploma and a Certificate of Apprenticeship. Interested students should contact their guidance counsellor, technical teacher or apprenticeship staff at an Employment Ontario office.
